Design Attitude Favors a Voice
In this project, we were given a paragraph long text and then were asked to create three different narratives from it. The narratives were affirmative, neutral, and critical. The idea was to use the whole text without adding or removing anything and simply change the narrative by different designs of the text. I’ve chosen to utilize the typeface to recreate the original text. For the neutral I divided the text into two equal paragraphs and then printed it on a white paper then I folded the paper from its middle and then I used a photocopier to create a copy. As a result of the fold lines, a shadow like background was generated from the copy machine. For affirmative, I emphasized on the positive words of the text by replacing and changing their size and font type while trying to undermine the potential negative words by lowering their size and repositioning them. For critical I dragged the letters and words to squeeze the whole text together while keeping it still readable. The result was a barcode like object covering the whole page. Then I opened up some white spaces in the text and inserted the negative words with smaller font size and detached them from the rest of text and making them more readable to audience.
